Well, I’m shoving everything I need for half a year into one big backpack (for those of you who don’t know, I’m moving to Australia for 6 months and will be living with my boyfriend’s parents). When you are traveling, you have to be choosy about what you want to take!
I honestly had a much harder time trying to whittle down the clothing than the toiletries… in fact, it was downright easy since I try to keep my skin care products to a minimum!
However, I figured you may be interested to see what it was that I was taking with me…. watch the video for a peek.

Fun video! Safe travels my friend.
Thank you 😀
You lucky girl you.
I’m so horrible at packing. I leave my packing to be done the day before a trip and then I take EVERYTHING with me. I went on a 4 day trip to Rhode Island and I probably could have lived there for half a month and done just fine with the amount of stuff I had. I actually had to change my clothes twice a day just so I wouldn’t feel like my outfits were going to waste haha.
haha yep, I’ve learned that it pays to start packing a few days before, especially if it’s a big trip!
My toiletry items consist of…
1. toothbrush
2. coconut oil/baking soda mix as my toothpaste and deodorant
3. Razor (I use this 1-3 times per month!)
4. Tiny canister with toenail clipper, fingernail clipper, small scissors (Again, rarely used!)
If I was traveling for 2 weeks or less then I would bring only my toothbrush and coconut oil mix. But, I am going to be traveling for the next 10 years so I kind of need #3 and #4!
That’s it! I don’t even use soap or shampoo in the shower… call me crazy! 🙂
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR TRAVELING TRACY! I hope we do start a podcast sometime this year!! If we do, then I will have 2 out there on iTunes… I can’t wait! 😉
Haha guys tend to go a lot lighter on the load when it comes to toiletries. Even though I say I keep my skin care products to a minimum – I just meant compared to most girls! haha…. I’d actually like to have less… but oh well. If my skin is better with a bit of extra care, then so be it 🙂
I’m in Australia too 🙂 I came across your blog today and have found a lot of the information really useful. You’ve obviously put a lot of effort into it – so thank you! With so many fashion blogs about it’s good to find a blog that is down to earth.
Hopefully your manuka honey gets through 😉
Thanks!! I’m glad you’re enjoying it Gen, and welcome 🙂
Have an amazing trip Tracy! let me know how that honey works out in that Cetaphil container. I’m planning on doing a lot of travel next year and am hoping to do something similar with my manuka honey, so sneaky!
Hahha….. I actually got scared and decided not to bring it. If it was any other country, I’d do it, but Australia is REALLY strict about bringing any food in because they’re an island and are careful to protect against invasive species and foreign plant diseases, I guess. Apparently they have food sniffing dogs…. I’m pretty sure they’re more strict about smuggling food in than smuggling in drugs! haha
Anyway… yeah. I got scared and decided to leave it…. I think it will still be good when I get back, so I’ll just have to pick up a new jar :/
Hi Tracy (and other readers)!
I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions for those lucky few with very dry, acne prone skin. Even in summer my skin is so dry that it flakes, and those are the only areas I also break out. I wonder if the two could be related.
I dont spot treat or use soap or any drying chemicals, I eat lots of healthy fats, drinks tons of water, and use jojoba oil twice daily to moisturize, but it’s not working. I’ve tried exfoliating daily, not exfoliating at all for months, exfoliating occasionally and it doesnt seem to make a difference. And winter is on it’s way here in Canada.
Does anyone have some natural/organic suggestions??
Thanks!
Hi Amy!
I’m sorry you struggle so much with dry skin :/ To be honest, I’m not sure what to say, as all those things are what I would suggest!
Have you ever tried just not washing your face at all? It would probably be horribly dry for a few days, but your natural oils will come back, and may just sort it out. Is it JUST your face that is dry or are there other parts of your body?
How did it go with getting the Manuka Honey through the airport in Australia? They’re really strict about it! So I’m just curious! 🙂
Actually I got scared and didn’t end up bringing it… but then nobody actually checked so I could have easily gotten away with it!
I’m totally creeping on all your old posts today…>.> I was confused when I saw the Cetaphil jar, but I literally LOLed when you showed us what it was. I tote baking soda (which I use on my hair and teeth) in clear plastic containers, and have had people joke that I’m smuggling crack haha. Have never tried it through airport customs, but maybe I’ll attempt something like you did. Love it.
haha after I posted this someone in the comments here made me too nervous, so I decided not to take it with me into Australia. It’s too bad though, because I totally would have gotten away with it!
