My name is Celine Harleaux, and I am 24. Like many of us in the TLV community, I have suffered from heavy, cystic acne for about 5 years (and I am 95% healed now!)
This blog post isn’t intended to give you the details of what helped my body heal (in short: wean off the pill, and change my diet), but rather to emphasize that self-love is rather bloody essential to attain our goal of clear skin.
Because clear skin can be a long journey, sometimes even a utopia! I know it has been the case for me.
Mostly because I focused hard on getting clear skin overnight (and if not overnight, then SOON!), and I didn’t see how self-love could help.
When I joined Tracy’s Naturally Clear Skin Academy, I just wanted acne to go away.
Having acne is so embarrassing.
Especially when you’re dating.
Don’t get me started on the pains of dating with acne 😉
I knew from Tracy that self-love was important, but I was unable to do any of the exercises, or look at myself in the mirror, and tell myself something like: ‘I love myself just the way I am today’. I just couldn’t.
I felt like my body was betraying me.
Back then, I was dating my now-husband, and I wanted honesty and intimacy for that burgeoning relationship.
I couldn’t do either of those.
Instead, I hid behind layers and layers of make-up. I felt like I didn’t deserve to be loved – by myself, or by anyone else.
I was focused on hating my body for what it was making me go through.
But I wanted to live my life to the fullest! That’s when Reiki came to me.
What is Reiki?
Reiki? The word is made up of two Japanese words: ‘Rei’, meaning Sacred or Spiritual, and ‘Ki’, meaning Energy.
The Usui System of Natural Healing (Reiki) is a natural, holistic method of natural energy healing. It involves channeling Reiki energy over any part of the body that needs support or clearing. Simple as that!
In other words, receiving Reiki equals receiving more life-energy to help you heal your body and your mind.
At this point, I must thank Tracy, who wrote about her own experience with Reiki, and how it helped her deal with acne-related anxiety.
After reading that article, I became curious about Reiki, but I didn’t take any immediate action. So when my friend registered for a Reiki 1 course, I decided to tag along.
After the course, I started to give myself Reiki treatments everyday.
I had read miracle success stories of people healed overnight from cancer with the help of Reiki… And I thought to myself: if Reiki can do help somebody with such an awful disease, it can certainly do the same with my acne.
I was still looking for instant, overnight healing.
Guess what? It didn’t happen.
Wanna know something? It was better this way.
I know now that if I had received clear skin instantly, I would have been left with clear skin, yes! But also a terrible lifestyle, an awful relationship to food, and an even sadder relationship with myself.
I am sure that I would have found another way to dislike myself – because I just didn’t believe that I deserved to feel beautiful and happy.
So what did Reiki do for me?
That’s the funny bit.
So as you know, I continued to Reiki myself everyday, in hopes of overnight clear skin (and why not instant enlightenment too!)
And slowly, my thoughts started to shift. I started to make small changes in my life, one by one.
Take some time for myself today? Yes, I can do that.
Leave that ugly whitehead alone? Okay.
Give up processed sugar? All right, then.
Talk about the sucking nature of acne to my sister? Yes, please!
… And so on.
I started to feel better, both physically and emotionally. And one day, I was able to look at myself in the mirror with acceptance. That was BIG for me.
Reiki, along with truthful information on natural, holistic healing, has been my most powerful friend in my journey towards clear skin. I became so passionate about Reiki that I did all of the Reiki courses, and I am now a Reiki Master. Woohoo 🙂
Now, I realize that not everybody is open to energy healing, and that’s OK. What everybody should be open to, though, is self-love.
Why don’t you start with a simple, yet powerful exercise? Start observing your thoughts from a spectator’s perspective. Watch them come and go in your mind.
And every time you catch yourself thinking something negative about yourself or your skin, acknowledge the thought, accept its presence, and let it go.
Instead, choose to replace it with something positive.
You deserve clear skin, and you deserve to feel beautiful and awesome. In fact, you ALREADY are beautiful and awesome. Anything else (anything negative) that you might tell yourself is just lies. So step into your truth, friend!
