What are Chia Seeds? And why are they good for getting rid of acne?
Well, like flax seeds, they are full of beneficial omega 3 fatty acids, but unlike flax seeds, they are much easier to enjoy as is. Flax is tricky – many people don’t know how to eat flax seeds properly so that they get the most Omegas out of them.
Make sure you watch the video below to find out if you are eating your flax right!
*In case it wasn’t clear in the video, chia seeds do not have to be ground before eating… the outer shell dissolves in your stomach 🙂
Have you had chia seeds yet? And are you eating your flax properly? Tell me below!

what are your thoughts on steaming the face?
I might do a video about that in the future!
Hello 🙂
i would also like to know what do you think about using natural clay masks?
Personally, I’ve never tried them, but I think they sound pretty cool! Give it a try and let us know how it goes!
i was doing it all wrong! roasting flax seeds and keeping it in the jar on room temperature for days and days…all omega 3 were lost that way 🙁
thank you for this video!
Actually, I made the video in response to your comment before. They’re a pretty tricky seed! Most people aren’t aware that you shouldn’t heat up nuts and seeds in general
I hate flax seeds, even when I soak them and whatnot the texture just feels gross for some reason. I’ll definitely try finding Chia seeds though, never even heard of that before this video. Or maybe I did, but forgot.
Just referencing an earlier video of yours, you’re so right about sunshine and emotional health playing an important part to skin health.
I went on a mini-vacation for President’s day here in the US and visited someone I care about a lot. During my 4 day stay there I probably washed my face like twice with some little herbal wash I made from jojoba oil, a bit of ACV, and some TTO. I wasn’t exactly eating as well as I should (valentine’s day chocolates must not go to waste.) I’m back now and I look at my face in the mirror and I almost wanted to shed a few tears (of joy.) I can’t remember the last time my skin looked this good. I’m not even talking about acne (which is mostly under control,) but just the overall texture of my skin. It looks so good and…normal. It’s what skin should look like.
It just further validates my belief in a natural way of living. 🙂
Yay! That’s awesome. I’ve heard quite a few times stories of people going camping, or hiking for a week or something, or on vacation… and they aren’t washing their faces, they aren’t worried about their faces because they can’t see them… and guess what? Better skin!
Hey Tracy! I’m just messaging to say that I have been using flax meal, do you think this is a better option for easier digestion of the seeds? I put them in my green smoothies and also on top of dinner and salads with nuts. Tastes fine. Thanks.
Flax meal is just ground up flax, right? Yes, it is better for digestion than whole flax seeds, but if you buy ground flax from the store, it’s been sitting so long that it’s highly unlikely it has any Omega 3s left in it. So if you are just eating it for fiber, that’s okay, but you probably want the Omega’s, so unfortunately, you have to grind them yourself and eat them right away. That’s why I put them in my smoothies, because it seems to be the easiest way to accomplish that.
So do you put whole flax seeds into your blender and blend them (and if so do they grind up easily?)? Or do you grind them in say, a mortar and pestle before you put them into your smoothie? I didn’t even think about the shelf life of it, thankyou. I will use whole flax seeds ground up from now on to get the most omega 3s. As usual thankyou for your help, and the water thing, wow didn’t think about how many heavy metals and things were in my water from the tap. I want to buy a filter because I can’t really afford to keep buying bottles of spring water, at least it will be an improvement on just plain tap water. Grazie Tracy.
haha I guess that depends on good your blender is! It seems to be hit or miss with blenders… mine was only $50, it’s made by General Electric, and it rocks. It grinds up flax seeds like nothing and makes great smooth smoothies, so yes, I just throw them in whole. But I’ve had other $50 blenders that suck and can hardly grind up greens, so you’ll have to see!
Hmm yes my blender does struggle with even just greens, so i think i shall invest in a better one because even blending up soft fruits and greens is a task! I love your green smoothies, have one every day. Oh and while im here, I also wanted to know about flaxseed oil, is this good to use or a waste of money if you’re just going to use whole flax seeds in things? Thanks
^^ Yeah flax oil is good, but it’s a very, very delicate oil so make sure you buy it from the fridge in a health food store, and it’s in a dark bottle, and you keep it in the fridge. But I think if you’re going to buy an oil, just buy fish oil. Like I said in, I think the last video, fish oil has the kind of Omega 3s that are directly usable by the body. The Omega 3s in flax have to be converted to the type of Omega 3s that are in fish oil, and the body doesn’t always convert it that easily. So you may as well just go straight for the direct form.
Ok so with the fish oil, what form should I buy it in, just straight oil or tablet? Can you even buy it as just oil? Thanks Tracy.
It doesn’t matter, but it has to be pure and good quality, otherwise it might not be good for you (like if it’s spoiled or damage, or has a low omega 3 ratio). I use this by Carlson’s, and I’ve heard other people have had good results with this brand as well. You can go for the straight oil or the gel cap form, I use the lemon flavour oil and it doesn’t taste like fish at all, just like a pleasant tasting lemony oil.
Hey!
I was wondering … can too many flax seeds cause constipation? The last few days I’ve added a whole ton into my diet, and I’ve noticed a change in my bowel movement… have you had any similar symptoms?
Actually, yes, because they are like psyllium husk…. they gel up when mixed with water and sort of absorb all the toxins and whatever in your intestines… acting like a sponge to move everything out. But they also absorb a ton of water as well, so if you start eating heaps of them and don’t up your intake of water a lot, then yes, you will get constipated.
Hmm, so the flax seeds are drawing out toxins? Or is that just psyllium husk?
Is the constipation “healthy” in a way because it’s drawing out toxins? Or should I just cut down on the flax seeds?
Flax seeds work the same as psyllium husk to draw out the toxins in a good way.
But you should start off with small amounts of flax and up your intake of it slowly, or you end up with digestive reactions like constipation, which no, isn’t healthy – the thing to prevent the constipation is that you need to cut down on the amount of flax you’re eating and you must drink a heap more water
Yay! I just stumbled upon your site while looking up facts about flax seeds. and perfect timing too! I recently moved and had a major change in diet and my acne (that was finally getting under control) totally flipped out and none of the topical things I have tried are working at all even the ones that used to work in the past. a chang in diet is where it’s at! Thank you for this site I’m really excited to get started and finally get my skin healthy! (it’s been 15 years of trying almost everything out on the market for acne, I really really hope this works)
On another note I love that you talked about chia seeds!!! they are amazing! I have been eating them for years, they are like a natural multi vitamin with not only the omega-3 fatty acids and fiber that you mentioned but also phosphorus, manganese, calcium, potassium and sodium! my favorite way to eat them is to put a spoon full in my tea. they gel up and make the tea fun to eat/drink! (take the tea bag out first otherwise they will just stick to it)
Thank you for this site!!!!
Hey Nasim – that’s a really interesting way to eat chia seeds, in the tea. I gotta try that!
Sorry but will chia seeds lose their value in omega 3’s because they are being put in HOT tea?
Yes, I think so
Check out Barlean’s Organic Oils. Some great ways to incorperate flesh, cold milled, flax oil into your diet. Also just some great info on flax.
I have recently added flax oil and seeds into my diet. Do you think that since flax may mimic estrogen, it would become more of a acne trigger in males; even with the benefits of the it’s omega 3 content?
Hi Jeff,
Yes, as an update to this article, I wouldn’t really recommend flax as the best source of Omega 3s. I believe fish oil or cod liver oil is the best source, and in particular, this fermented cod liver oil stuff is the best there is: https://thelovevitamin.com/3452/fermented-cod-liver-oil/
