Acne, sunscreen, and a healthy lifestyle… conventional sunscreen is so full of horrible chemicals, what is a person to do on a glorious, sunny day?
In this video I’ll let you know what I do about sun protection, and my best recommendations for some natural sunscreens that you can try.

I listen to Dr. Mercola so I went on his site and bought some of :

I haven’t tried it out yet but I’ll report back! The ingredients are all safe, plus green tea! Not sure if the price is about what you got for yours …
Thanks for the tip Jeffrey… his sunscreen looks great! And it seems to be a better price than what I paid, as I think the bottle’s bigger… I might even order some of it for myself
slight problem – my mom just used it on her vacation to China and she said that after putting it on her face it was really white and if you touched it slightly, it smeared and kind of looked gross (after putting it on for a few hours too, apparently). Soo … I’m going to try it for myself and I’ll get back to you.
(I’m also going to try the aloe vera for my face today as well)
ok here’s my review:
it’s fine for body, but not for the face (i didn’t even try it on my face lol). After I put it on, there was a white tint that was highly noticeable for the first twenty minutes about, then it kind of blends in (but still noticeable). It smells pretty nice as well 🙂
So basically it’s a body sunscreen that works well.
Hmm yeah I think it’s pretty common for the sunscreens with minerals as their active ingredient to be kind of white and pasty on the skin at first… it’s because the minerals reflect the sun on the surface of the skin and aren’t supposed to be absorbed… unlike regular sunscreens that get absorbed into the skin (along with all its chemicals) and work their magic in there
Parabens in a lot of beauty products and sunscreens have been shown to increase UV light absorption and cause more sun damage to skin. It’s super important to avoid AT LEAST the Parabens when it’s sunny out, but obviously we should stay away from as many synthetic chemicals as possible.
You seem super smart! I have been looking though all your videos and articles for hours now and I’m amazed at all the content you posted online. I’m going to go to the store tonight and purchase some fruit and vegetables for a green smoothie haha.
And by the way my last name is also McCullough and Irish!
Awesome! Good luck my fellow McCullough 😀
Kind of off topic but … I just had one spot come up a few days ago – I left it alone and it’s basically gone now. It didn’t hurt at all throughout the whole thing, it had a head but I forced myself to not touch it. I was wondering if there are any quick blemish fixers for AFTER the spot goes away – I’m still using that honey mask that you suggested. However, are there any simple spot treatments that can get rid of redness from spots that just went away? Thanks!
Hmm.. you know, I don’t know. I’m usually too lazy to worry about it, but probably because I can just throw some makeup on it until it goes away on its own. I’ll have to do some experiments to see if there is anything good I can recommend!
ha okay lucky you then! i don’t have any makeup 😛
The Environmental Working Group has a 2011 report on sunscreen that’s worth a look for finding the best and most effective: http://breakingnews.ewg.org/2011sunscreen/
Thanks, Tracey!
Thanks for the tip Maria!
just wondering, does too much sun without sunscreen cause acne at all? The past week or so I’ve been out for long periods of time (2+ hours) and i’ve noticed a few small new pimples appear …
I suppose it could because too much sun exposure does cause damage to the skin and is probably irritating :/
I have been “blessed” with fair, oily, acne prone skin, unfortunately. You name it, I’ve tried it – just about every product out there, which, in itself, is not so good for my skin. I just discovered Hyaluronic acid completely by accident. I am impressed!!! I use the Lady Soma Renewal Serum, where hyaluronic acid is the main ingredient.
I’ve had this really bad breakout on the side of my neck since July, that would just not go away. Since I began using the Lady Soma Serum, they’re healing and going away. YAY!!!
I use it morning and night. My skin is soft, no longer oily and I have not have any new breakouts (even when my time of the month came).
I am becoming a life long customer. I love this stuff.
