When it comes to clearing your skin, you probably think a lot about what you’re eating. But are you giving much thought to the quality of what you’re drinking?

What quality of water are you drinking?

[..YouTube..] I’ll never drink a drop of bottled water..It’s not worth it. There is hardly any change in nutritional value from tap to bottled and bottled water has been found in alot of cases to be purified tap water anyway. It acctually varies from place to place. I live in London but if I go and see relatives up north the water tastes different, cleaner infact. Water filters are a good idea though, aslong as you’re not too fanatical.Have you researched the ratings on plastic bottles for toxins?
Yes, I suppose it’s an eye for an eye… you may be getting rid of some toxins, but gaining others from the plastic. I wasn’t aware it was potentially the same or worse though! Thanks for the input 🙂
I like my refrigerator water charcoal filter because you can gauge when you need to change it because the flow of water goes from pouring water to a steady drip. 😛
Great video!
I have a quick, off topic question. You said in an earlier video that you could never bring yourself to not wear makeup during your worst bout of acne, my question is – how did you then, and how do you now wash your makeup off? I’m really struggling with this. I feel like every time I wash my makeup off, no matter how gently with honey – I either irritate my skin or I feel like I didn’t get it all off. Both of which are horrible for the already horrible breakout I’m STILL having..
Hi Taylor. I don’t know, my makeup just seemed to come off okay. Can I ask what kind of makeup you use? Mineral makeup comes off easier and it’s the best kind to use for acne prone skin.
Also, I can sell you’re sounding very frustrated that you’re breaking out, but please try to remember that you will break out as you detox… I know, it’s really, really hard not to worry and freak out about it, but just remember that moving toward a healthy lifestyle is never going to make it worse in the end… you gotta keep going and pull through it. It’s temprorary. My skin definitely got worse before it got better… google ‘healing crisis’ or ‘heximer reaction’ and read as much as you can about the healing process to make yourself feel better and more at ease, okay? You’re doing well! Keep it up! x
I’m using a mineral foundation only. Thank you for the encouragement, I need it! I have been making efforts to be healthier over all. Exercizing again, taking a really strong probiotic for my digestive issues (which is working wonders)… drinking more water, trying to cut down on the sugar, eliminated alcohol, I haven’t used a facewash in months, and I even went without makeup for an entire month. Or even letting water touch my face. All of this, and right now – my skin is at its worst, BY FAR. All of this started out as about ten large spots on the side of my face, now it looks like a rash with tons and tons of tiny ones on both sides. And some cysts underneath the skin. I was so tempted to try Proactiv again, because I had beautiful skin when I used it, but I know it wouldn’t work forever. I don’t want to have to use it for the rest of my life. I know healing this is possible, while doing as little as possible and not drying the crap out of my face, I just can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel right now.
I’m sorry you’re having such a rough time 🙁 I remember feeling that way, slowly but surely it got better. Hang in there!
Just a note on mineral make-up… I used it for about five years then my skin started looking rashy and inflamed… Horrible. I thought it was bad acne and it just got worse and worse. I decided to stop putting any make-up on my face. After two weeks the rash was gone and acne improved. The improvement was tremendous. I use a bit of Physician’s Formula Organic translucent powder now plus concealer on spots. It is a bit drying but seems to cause only minimal problems for me. I haven’t figured out which ingredient in the mineral make-up caused my rash but I wouldn’t go back to it. Less make-up is best but it’s hard to let go of that security blanket. Love your site!
Do you use the filtered water (I also have a Brita pitcher) for washing your face? I’ve actually never thought about it before, but it makes sense to me that all those toxins can’t be good topically either. Could make showering tricky, though…
You know, I’ve heard that washing your face with filtered or spring water is a good idea and can make a difference… so far I’ve been too lazy to do this, but I may try it! I also don’t really know what you would do about showering though :/
You could install a water filter, softener or uv for your house. Aquat.com has some useful information about this. It does cost money but it helps take away chlorine and pollutants and is environmentally friendly 🙂
Hi Tracy,
I’m currently reading your e-book “Cure Your Skin Compulsions” and am working my way through the website “Stop Picking on Me”. I searched this post because I am reading the recommendation in SPOM that distilled water is the best water to drink. I was curious what you advise about this recommendation?
Write back when you can. Thanks,
Caitlin
Hi Caitlin,
I’m not sure why they recommend that in SPOM… I have always read that drinking distilled water for a length of time is very unbalancing because it’s devoid of minerals
Thanks, Tracy. I appreciate your response. I’ll just continue drinking my filtered lemon water for now. I hope to convince my husband to get reverse osmosis one day. Is having softened well water worse for the skin, do you happen to know?
I stumbled across your site after buying the e-book bundle in January. I have found the information you present very helpful and supportive. I’ve struggled with acne since I hit puberty and feel hopeful that through lifestyle changes, some not so simple,(ugh…I love cheese!!) I, too, can have positive changes in my skin and health. Thank you for sharing your story and journey through skin recovery.
Caitlin
Good luck on your journey Caitlin 🙂
Really, I can’t believe you just recommended buying your water. That’s probably the biggest waste of money you could ever do, I’d rather burn it. Not only is their the toxins to worry about, bit its just tap water from different places, it just tastes different to us cause we’re not used to it. Plus the biggest scam probably ever. Were going to bottle your tap water, and then sell it back to you. Literally. But whatever floats your boat
