Hey Tracey!
I just found your blog and I love it. I have been struggling for the past 2 years with acne rosacea and I basically have been told by doctors that there is no cure and the only thing i can do is take antibiotics. I have tried antibiotics and they only work at first and then actually make the problem worse. I can definately relate to the whole emotional side of things because I don’t want to leave my house when my face gets really bad and it actually hurts to put makeup on sometimes so I have to decide if I want to deal with the burning of putting on the make up or go outside with a red face.
Luckily I decided to research natural remedies and went to a naturopath. I have had great results by changing my diet but have a hard time staying motivated and sticking to my diet. I have also found the naturopath very expensive so I’ve decided to study to be a holistic nutritionists as well. I was wondering how you are liking your program? I am going to take the RHN program through CSNN, so if you happen to be taking the same one…how do you like it? Also, do you have any tips for staying motivated to eat better?
Thanks!
Shannon
Hi Shannon!
I’m glad you’ve found a holistic approach. At times it’s not easy sticking to a diet, but I find that after you’ve detoxed and gotten the problem under control, there’s not as much need to be strict about it. And the more you learn about how awful most of the food people eat is, you naturally want to eat healthier choices! Of course, the motivation to stay clear is definitely the biggest factor for me. It does gets easier though.
I am taking the RHN program with CSNN, and I like it! It doesn’t teach one rigid philosophy, which I like. It gives you a very well rounded perspective from a lot of different points of view so you can decide for yourself – diet is a very hotly debated issue! Anyway, after all this time and research, I’ve definitely decided that I think the paleo/primal style of eating is a more on target way of eating for health and have heard way more success stories with it (than say a vegan/vegetarian style diet)… this isn’t the majority of what they teach in the RHN, but they touch on it briefly with a book from the Weston A Price foundation. Aaaannyyywaaay… if you’re having a hard time staying on your diet, look into a primal style diet… it’s not hard to stick to, because it’s delicious!
Hey Tracy! I am so glad that I found your website! I have mild/severe acne. They are mainly the inflamed, painful nodules, or papules…or whatever other nasty name they are referred to as. Focused on my chin and random ones on my forehead every now and again. I had such clear skin for a long time! The last few years it has been fluctuating (college, work, stress!) and I have been using the Acne.org regiment. I am not thrilled with benzoyl peroxide, but for some reason I am afraid to give it up! I am afraid that my acne will get worse, or it will spread, or never go away! I am so fearful of these things, it is a little absurd. Although, who knows if the rate that my acne has healed is attributed to the BP – it could just be time that has healed it. Perhaps, you could share your story with me of how you decided to give up BP and what you switched to. I want to go the holistic route but I need the motivation to give up the chemicals I threaten my face with twice a day every day. Food and exercise will be gradually worked in as I learn more about what my body and mind need to stay balanced.
You are a beautiful lady and very inspiring! I too enjoy dancing at festivals, traveling, and just GETTING OUTSIDE!! I have been brave enough not to wear makeup to my place of work, play rehearsal, and school, because my face is SOOOOOO dry from the BP! It is really a hard thing to do. I have always thought of myself as fairly attractive, but my acne kills my self esteem. I have a boyfriend who loves me and knows the battle I face with my skin, but I still feel undesirable. I have been working on deciphering the route causes (perhaps it is not the acne after all, but the acne is something I can put blame on). It makes me feel better to have friends who don’t care about what my skin looks like – people whom I can be silly with regardless of how I actually feel about myself right now.
Anywhoodle, I think I am done rambling. Thank you for making this site, if I hadn’t found it…it would have taken me countless hours to realize I need to do things as naturally as possible…and STOP SLATHERING AN ABUNDANCE OF CHEMICALS ON MY FACE! It’s funny how we live in a world where I feel more apt to trust a girl on the internet, whom I have never met, as opposed to my physician. Thank you for caring. Namaste.
Hi Audrey!! Welcome to the blog! 🙂
It’s hard to let go of our face washes and creams… I was very attached to benzoyl. It’s the fear of the unknown. I decided to stop using it mostly because it just slowly stopped working. My skin kind of got to a point where it really didn’t seem like BP was doing ANYTHING and I got fed up. But i went off cold turkey and then I broke out a little…so I got scared and I started using some OTC with sulphur as the ingredient, and that didn’t do anything, and then I went to the doctor and he gave me Duac, but I couldn’t bring myself to use it because they say it gives you a terrible in initial breakout, and then I decided to use Carley Clear and Smooth (which I now know causes serious problems for a lot of people)… I also changed my cleanser many times in that span (which was like… 2 or 3 months). That’s when my skin got severe, but I think it was the emotions that brought it to as bad as it was in the end. Anyway. I don’t think it’s a good idea to shock your face by going from one thing to the next over and over. Just wean off the BP, and stick with natural, gentle things right away (honey, aloe). You may get a mild breakout as you switch and your skin gets used to being without it, but it’ll pass and just don’t freak out!! Just keep reminding yourself of how much BP dries out your skin and isn’t helping it. Distract yourself with other things, be happy, joyful, meditate, and really explore why you are so scared to let it go and face those fears.
Okay. Good luck Audrey!! 🙂
Did you ever get your diploma for holistic nutrition?
