David Benjamin Healthy Wild and FreeHey L Vitamins 🙂

The following is an interview with David Benjamin of the website Healthy Wild And Free (although you might know him from Acne Erasing Secrets).

This is one in a series of short interviews with peeps who have cleared their skin naturally & holistically to find out what worked for them and what didn’t!

These are posted every other week, and if you have cleared your skin naturally and want to fill out your own interview to be featured on The Love Vitamin, then just click here!

What was your experience with acne? How many years did you have it; how did it make you feel?

I had acne on and off for about 5 years, it was stressful, frustrating, and definitely affected my confidence levels.

It made me feel less valuable as a human being, which is weird, since it’s not true. How you look shouldn’t affect how you feel about your worth, but we sometimes let that happen because we forget the truth about who we really are.

If I had acne now I would see things in a much different way, I would be at ease and at peace with it, and it would clear up much faster because of that as well.

What kinds of things did you try prior to holistic healing that didn’t work?

Proactiv, Clean and Clear, every over the counter face wash out there… I tried pretty much all of them. They mostly just dried my skin out and made it more red.

Finger Defect Accutane
My brother’s birth defect as a result of Accutane

Thankfully I didn’t try Accutane or anything like that… my brother was actually born with a birth defect because of Accutane so I steered clear of that, and also recommend that others steer clear at all costs.

How did you discover that acne could be treated holistically?

My mom, actually… she is a naturopath and she started introducing me to things like clay, apple cider vinegar, herbs for detoxification, etc.

She supported me in clearing my acne in a natural way, growing her knowledge at the same time. I was a positive by-product of her knowledge and support, and I’m so thankful for that.

What were the specific things that made the biggest difference to your skin? What worked for you?

Eating a healthier, cleaner diet; using detoxification herbs that specifically detoxify the colon & liver; as well as beginning to use only natural skincare products, that were free of parabens, sulfates, benzoyl peroxide etc.

My approach changed from “attacking acne” to “healing my skin” which was a huge shift for me.

It allowed me to focus more on balance, healing and recovery as opposed to attacking something that’s a part of your skin that is caused by an internal issue.

Were there any obstacles? Things you found difficult about the whole process?

For me, I started using some detoxifying herbs and saw results, but I wasn’t consistent, so I would detoxify a bit, have some junk food, some candy etc… and then skip a few days of taking the herbs.

If I would have been consistent about taking the herbs and consistent about a healthier diet, drinking water, using natural skincare etc… my skin would have cleared up much quicker.

In fact, I think I would have had completely clear skin in only a few weeks if I had just focused on what I knew worked and stayed committed.

Focus, belief and commitment to your health is very important for your long-term progress in clearing your acne and healing your skin overall.

How did you feel once your skin cleared up?

Happy and relieved! I felt like I skipped out on a lot of experiences in life that would have been really fun, simply because I had acne.

I didn’t go to any school dances or prom or anything like – partially because of acne, but also emotional baggage that I carried.

I hope that if you can relate to this, you aren’t letting acne stop you from living life, or holding you back in any way. Be confident regardless of what your face looks like, and that will help you feel better, and make better, healthier decisions as a by-product.

If you let the image in the mirror beat you up every time you look at it then you will continue to suffer and be sad, but you don’t need to be. It’s a choice, and it starts with you deciding whether you want to be happy or sad, confident or not.
