If you’ve googled or youtubed anything to do with curing acne naturally, you’ve probably come across redheaded Australian Fran Kerr and her website about holistic skin care, High on Health.
Fran’s a good egg. She was one of many inspirations for me when I was trying to clear my own acne, and I think that we have a lot in common. If you haven’t checked out her site, it’s a very comprehensive resource for natural skin care and clearing acne, so it’s definitely worth a look. She’s a very sincere and genuine person.
Fran has her own ebook that she’s written called ‘Eat Away Your Acne – How to Enjoy Food & Cure Your Acne’. It retails for $27 but recently she put it on special for $5 (the deal is over now, sorry). I couldn’t help myself, so I decided to grab it and see what Fran had to say on the subject so that I could share it with you.
I wasn’t sure what to expect. What kind of diet advice was she going to give? Was it anything like my own opinion?
Here’s a quick little run down on what she offers in the book:
First of all, she begins by letting you know what acne is, how it’s formed, and what causes inflammation.
She then gets into food sensitivities, hormones, digestion, good and bad fats, refined foods, sugars, milk, and some other examples of foods you should eat and foods you should avoid.
Then you get some ideas for healthy snacks and meal ideas, a few suggestions for external skin care, and a note on how she feels about doctors and naturopaths. The book gets wrapped up there.
My opinion?
It was a pretty good beginner’s guide to healthy eating and what I would mostly suggest myself. Does it cover every detail of natural nutrition in depth? No, but if you are brand spankin’ new to healthier eating, this book is definitely a good start. She doesn’t recommend one rigid diet regime and leaves your options open to experimentation and self discovery.
One of the reasons Eat Away Your Acne doesn’t cover everything is because it’s very short at only 44 pages long. I believe Fran has a lot more knowledge up her sleeve, but didn’t want to overwhelm people new to the nutrition game… because believe me, there’s a lot to know and it’s easy to get overwhelmed.
Since being overwhelmed leads to stress which may lead to acne, I can’t really blame her there!
Most importantly… will it really cure your acne?
That depends on how bad your diet is and whether or not that is the weakest link when it comes to your skin. If you’ve read through my site, you’ll know that I feel there is much more to curing your acne than just diet. Fran knows this too, but like I said… she didn’t want to overwhelm anyone.
If you’d like to purchase Fran Kerr’s book, Eat Away Your Acne, you can click here to give it a whirl.

hey again 🙂
i think i really want to use the rest of this summer to truly figure out what is causing my acne still … i’m debating whether to buy fran kerr’s book or skin deep by seppo pusa (the one you used as well).
I seriously don’t think it’s diet anymore. I’ve done everything I can with my diet – i’ve had a clean diet for almost an year now — and I love what I’m eating. It’s not like I’m super duper focused – to the point of causing stress.
I’m wondering about any other possibilities. I’m exercising every day, having supplements … my emotions are okay – the only thing might be getting down on myself and not wanting to leave the house at times if my acne is really bad. But even then it’s only like 1-2 pimples at the MOST that have popped up.
so … just wondering for your opinion on which book (or even if I should buy a book) would be best for my situation.
thank you 🙂
Hi Jeff….
Well I’m in the process of writing my OWN ebooks… hahah if I had been more punctual and finished them by now, then I’d say to buy mine! One is all about food and diet, and the other one is going to be all about emotional healing.
To be honest, if I were you, I wouldn’t buy this book by Fran. It’s very basic diet advise, and if you have been eating a healthy diet for more than a year, it’s likely not your problem. Her new one that she just released is pretty good and has some tips that might help you, but again, lots of it is about diet still (and lots of it is about raw food and such). It was still worthwhile though, and I learned a couple things!
As for Seppo’s book, his book is great, but it’s basically just a more comprehensive version of my free ebook, so if you get the gist from that, then you might not need to buy it. He has a decent emotional healing package though as a companion to Clear for Life.
I’m posting a series of articles, the first of which will be posted on Saturday about how to pinpoint the major imbalance in your acne problem… maybe it will help you figure things out and see if you still need to purchase a book. 🙂
sounds great! 🙂
random question .. have you ever tried applying coconut oil on your face?
No, because I hear it can be quite comedogenic! I’d use it on my body, but not on my face
http://www.highonhealth.org/coconut-oil-is-an-awesome-natural-acne-treatment/
?
That’s a really old post of hers. She later writes that she tried it and it was a big mistake – it clogged all her pores and took months to recover. That’s why I’m not trying it!
oh shoot! how about just on the pimple itself, not anywhere else?
or ingesting it…?
I don’t know if putting it on the pimple itself is effective, as I’ve never tried it. But it’s probably safer to try than putting it all over your face. Some people do love coconut oil though and it doesn’t clog their pores, it’s just an individual thing I guess. Ingesting it is a whole different story… its great, I use it to cook all my food!
yeah, i looked at someone suggesting to simply eat it off the spoon! which sounds kind of … gross! i think i’m going to do some experiments … maybe try washing my face with jojoba oil. i’ve heard that’s good too. you just use honey, right?
agh, i wish i could just edit my comments instead of having to write a new one each time! lol.
i just tried the oil cleansing method, and WOW it feels SO good! the past year i’ve just been using water, apple cider vinegar, and aloe vera. that’s all. here’s what i did :
– warm towel to open pores a bit
– mixed jojoba oil and burt’s bees lemon + vitamin E oil and put it on a washcloth
– applied to the face, moving washcloth to spread …
– put the warm washcloth on my face for a min or two (best feeling ever lol)
– rinsed the oil off with the washcloth, then applied the aloe vera.
it feels amazing. but i’ll keep you updated on how this goes. hopefully it works! 🙂
A lot of people do like the oil cleansing method…. I used it for a little while when my acne was bad and then stopped because I got scared. But I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off back then anyway. Now I’m just basically too lazy to really do lots of external skin care stuff, although that’s not to say my skin wouldn’t benefit from it. Let me know how the OCM works for you! 🙂
good news! really good news! i’ve been using it for almost a week now, and it’s going amazing. my skin feels 1000x softer, and I haven’t had any new blemishes. It’s not oily at all, more like a softness that I haven’t felt in a long time! basically in the morning I rinse my face then steam it with a warm towel and apply the oil then aloe vera, then at night I just shower and use apple cider vinegar. i’ll keep you posted!
Hi Tracy,
Luv your videos and your honesty. I wanted to know more abut your healing process
and what your diet consisted of. I am struggling with rashes and breakouts all over
and find it hard to feel confident about myself. I am having to look for a job and
it does not make a great first impression. I am doing the Body Ecology because I
know that my digestion and absorption are imbalanced. I am doing many of the things
you talk about including learning to meditate. I am 46 and this is the worst my
skin has ever been…having battled acne since I was a teen and tried all conventional
methods over the years.
I am also interested to find out what school you are attending for Holistic Nutrition.
Thank you for helping others who need encouragement!!!
I am open to any info on emotional and digestive healing you did.
This website has given me hope, hope that one day I will wake up and look into the mirror with no spots. I will look in to the mirror happy, not worrying about my face and not putting a kilogram of makeup. Tracy, you seem to be one of the nicest women, so understanding. If I mention acne to someone, they’ll just not care and say it will go. I feel that you are the only one I have come across who truly understands that acne affects your life. I am writing this, feeling much happier, even though my face is still full of spots. In 3 months time my life will change. Thank you so much. I will tell you my results.
Hey Leyla, yep….. I get it! People who have never really dealt with acne on any great scale truly don’t understand the emotional impact. Good luck with your journey, sending you a ton of love to heal! x
I used to have terrible acne… inflamed.. I think my face even looked swollen from it..years of doctors…accutane…b.p pills etc..u name it… I finally cleared my own skin..today I have fresh, dewy clear skin…still have minor scars that hardly show… keeping your skin clear is a task that requires daily maintenance and staying away from acne causing foods most of the time…its not just skin care… my ebook is almost done and ill be posting the link here soon…
