Growing your own vegetable garden is one of the best things you can do for your health and the planet! (And subsequently your skin).
Where else can you get tasty, fresh, nutritious, organic food, for next to nothing? And the first time you try your own homegrown food, you will immediately taste the difference between it and veg from the supermarket. It can’t be beat!
For those who are immediately intimidated by the idea… don’t worry. You don’t need to know anything about gardening – I didn’t know anything and it all worked out pretty well. It’s an experiment, and it’s fun!

Have you been growing any of your own food this summer?

Greetings!
I just found this website. Thank you so much for all the time you put into it, so far I have enjoyed every blog post I have read and will be doing a lot of your recipes soon as well. (making the kale chips tommrow!) I used to have very severe acne…(was on accutane..etc…) and over the course of 2 yrs I have been able to clear it up (mostly) using natural methods and by drinking a green smoothie every single day. 🙂
So I know I shall be visiting your website very often
Thank you again for such a cool site! <3
Hi Brielle!!
First of all…. COOL COSTUMES!! That’s so rad…. and secondly…… I’m very happy for you that you managed to clear your acne holistically!! woohoo! Welcome to the website and I’m happy to have you here! 😀
Greetings Tracy,
why thanks so much for looking at my costumes!
That totally made my day!! 😀
Yes, so far my acne is getting under control, but I am still working on clearing it up. It is a slow process, but your website really encourages me. Thank you! I shall be around often. 🙂
oh! on another note I made your fruitless green smoothie recipe. Awesome!
That’s awesome Tracy! I’m so inspired to make a little garden of my own. 🙂
Do it! It’s fun! I wish that I had been able to make a video like this when I started it (but I didn’t have my video camera and tripod yet) so that I could have inspired everyone to get theirs started before summer was in full swing… but oh well…. there is always next year!!
nice work Tracy! My mothers side of the family are big on farming so I used to love going back east to my grandparents house in Indiana and seeing strawberries and the sort grow 🙂 although I had a couple bad memories when I touched the little electric fence by accident haha. Growing your own food is such a good stress-reliving, sun-soaking, in tune with the earth kind of thing that it makes me want to get out of Los Angeles and back in the country lol
Yeah it feels totally awesome 🙂 I love living in the woods, and I never want to live in a city again! (not a big one anyway!)
Oh I can not wait till I start my own garden when I have my own home! I will be moving to Orlando, Florida in October and may have to do it then!
Yes Florida weather will definitely get you a beautiful garden! Although you’ll have to keep up with the watering with that heat. What made you decide on moving to Orlando? So you can go to Harry Potter World every weekend? heheh
No, I won’t be going to Harry Potter World every weekend, lol. But, I will go back a few times!
Wow! I’m super jealous! I’ve always wanted a garden but living in a tiny apartment it doesn’t really work! lol I love your videos and website! You are very helpful! Thanks!
Thanks Alee! Welcome to the site! 🙂
Oh, this is SO nice! (though I’ve found that it takes a LOT of work to sort out the ground, hack up weeds etc. Is that a problem for you?)
Also:
I’ve just bought your ebook, yay 😀 but I was wondering where those two videos (about your meal throughout the day and the one about your fridge) can be watched and where the free recipies are? 😉
Lots of love!!
Hi Eleanor,
Well I’m lucky that this particular place already had that all done with the beds in place and everything… I just had to plant the vegetables! However, I did dig up and the sort out the ground for a garden at my mom’s place when I was staying there, and yes it’s a lot of work haha… and I plan to do this process again if the next place I live doesn’t have a garden already…. but hey… I figure…. it’s exercise! Exercise with a purpose! So it’s not so bad.
However, I actually think it’s better to build raised beds from plywood and fill them with dirt as opposed to de-root and weed the ground… that way you can fill it with extra good, nutrient dense soil, and it’s better for drainage. Sounds easier too… maybe (I haven’t done it before so I don’t know). I’m sure if I do end up doing it, videos will be made!
Anyway… the ebook…. there are two documents… one is the main book and the other is a separate document with the recipes and videos. When it you downloaded it and unzipped it, they should have both been there. If you can’t find it, just email me and I’ll send it to you manually through email.
Lovely garden! There is a really great reference book called Rodale’s Ultimate Encyclopedia of Organic gardening which could give you a lot of tips for expanding your garden and its efficiency 🙂 It’s the only book me or my mom (who’s been doing it for 10+ years) have ever needed, plus it has a lot of info in it I never would have thought of investigating!
Thanks Lainie! I’ll have to check that out… we could use all the help we can get. And my boyfriend loves to collect books, so I’m sure it would make a great addition to our bookshelf!
I’m so jealous!! I had the best time a year before last with my veg garden and now live in a tiny apartment. So for now it’s not a possibility but even so I have been growing some green onions in my window and just got a couple of aloe plants the other day to be able to put in smoothies and things. To have the vegetable and herb garden was so healing and always put me in such a good state of mind, even if I could only go and touch my mint and smell it on the way to the car. Can’t wait to do again one day. Thanks for the tour!!
Omg I can only imagine how much this must save you on groceries. I have got to try this someday. At the very least, I’m now thinking that I’ll get some herb plants by the window in my apartment 🙂
Oh yes, it does, for that brief period of time! haha. The year after this I moved house, and my garden wasn’t this good. I think because it didn’t get as much sun as this place – so it didn’t save me much money really. Ah well.
