Awww… you look beautiful fresh and glowy.. Love It!!
Thanks Konica! ๐
I didn’t hear where you got the jojoba oil from?
Oh wow! Your face is simply radiant!
I’m kind of scared, my mom desperately wants to put me on accutane and birth control. She says it’s fine because they monitor you and do blood tests.
I want to go the natural route though and I’m terrified of the side effects associated with those pills. I’ve tried honey and olive oil and all those other wonderful things, but they don’t seem to work. She also thinks I have higher testosterone levels than normal (I’m a girl) which is REALLY FRUSTRATING.
Honestly I’m at the end of my rope but seeing your journey and reading these entries keeps me positive. My skin can’t be like this forever…
Hey Erika,
I read your comment, and I just couldn’t help responding….PLEASE do not get on birth control to treat your acne. I thought my skin was bad and got on the pill. And it did help somewhat, but it still wasn’t great. However, the side effects were awful, it messes with your emotions horribly, and now that I’ve tried to get off it’s worse than I ever imagined. Getting on the pill was honestly one of the worst mistakes I’ve ever made.
Stick with the suggestions on this awesome blog and tell your mom to check it out too. ๐ Good luck!
Definitely agreed… birth control pills can be tempting but even if they help, then you’re stuck because they often cause a huge mess when you want to go off them and end up with much worse acne. And Accutane… don’t get me started! Just because they monitor you doesn’t mean it’s safe… its silently causing lots of damage. And yes… definitely show your mom my website! I’m really happy you are thinking twice about this stuff… there is a good reason to be scared of it! Good for you ๐ Ask if your mom will help to support you with a healthier lifestyle just to see if it works before you try any of these drugs that she wants you to.
Also, in regards to the honey and olive oil not working, I definitely don’t claim these to be any miracle… a good skin care routine needs to be coupled with a healthy lifestyle. A good skin care routine like this one will usually help but never really get rid of acne on its own.
Anyway!!! lots of love Erika! Stay positive!
Thank you two for the replies! Mom’s taking me to a skin specialist this afternoon to talk about options. I’m going to listen but I really want to go the natural route, especially with all the negative responses I’m hearing about birth control and accuntane! I bought that same apple cider vinegar you have and it’s making my skin glow (the parts not covered in scars and acne). I’m saving up for manuka honey but for now I’m using organic local stuff.
It’s hard when there’s so much phycological warfare going on inside. The emotional battle is the most painful but I’m staying hopeful and continuing to strive for healthy living!
Thank you. You have no idea how much your advice means to me.
Hi Erika!
I know you have already read advice from Tracy and Jen, but I wanted to share my story with you. I went on birth control at the age of 17 to treat acne. I was on the pill for almost 10 years! (I’m 26 now) My acne was ok while I was on the pill, but I still had problem areas and occassional breakouts. Six months ago I decided that I was going to start researching and making informed decisions about what I was putting into my body. I felt that the pill was really messing up my body and emotions. Sooo….I decided to stop. My skin went crazy for like 3 months! My acne was really bad and sore. During this time I had already started eating healthier, exercising more, and using natural skin care products. I will never go back on the pill, EVER! I have been experimenting with different natural remedies for acne and have seen improvements over the last month. I started using Tracy’s routine last week, and I love how my skin feels. I hope that you stand your ground and go the natural path. I know how frustrating it is when your face is covered in acne…but please think hard before you start birth control. Best of luck to you ๐
Hi Erika,
I know you’ve already had a lot of responses about Accutane but while it’s something I’ve done (and regretted) I just wanted to share my experience.
I was referred to a dermatologist here in the UK while I was in university. Their only option for treatment seemed to be Accutane – they didn’t even consider anything else even when I mentioned my worries about its reputation. I should probably say my skin wasn’t THAT bad, I can a few spots but not full on acne.
So, trusting the ‘experts’ I decided to go for it. The side effects are pretty horrific to be honest – my skin was REALLY REALLY dry, my lips were so dry and peeling not matter what I put on them BUT my acne did seem better. After a few months my skin was clear overall but as soon as I went off it it went even worse than it was before, a lot worse.
Perhaps even more scarily for a girl, the excessive drying of your skin caused by accutane caused pre mature ageing of my skin.
It’s also now really sensitive and red, I have reactions to things when I never did before.
Perhaps most scarily of all was the effect it had on my emotional health. I didn’t notice it at the time and blamed it on the stressful time I was going through. I cried all the time and felt so low that some mornings I literally couldn’t get out of bed. It was like his horrible weight that I couldn’t get to go away.
Luckily I had the most loving boyfriend in the world who never complained or critisised – he stood by me and trust me I was a NIGHTMARE to be with!!
Very soon after stopping I started feeling a lot happier and couldn’t work out why. No other part of my life had changed. It took me a long time to realise what it was that had made me so depressed.
They SAY it happens to few people, but I’m certain they don’t tell you the full picture.
I really hope you persevere with a more natural route. I know a load of people who’ve had similar experience to me.
Here’s wishing you all the luck in the world with your skin! *hugs*
Nicky xxx
Thanks so much for sharing your experience with Accutane! I can’t imagine having to live with potentially permanent side effects… I can see how tempting it is to take Accutane, but then I picture myself living with something it gave me forever… even if it was minor like sensitive skin or dry skin… no thanks! It’s easy to think ‘whatever’ before you’re living it. That’s why I couldn’t bring myself to do it.
I wish you could tell this story to the people on youtube! My video that I made about why I didn’t take Accutane cops so much shit from people for merely suggesting that there are other options out there, and explaining that I had severe acne, didn’t take it, and cleared my skin. It’s youtube though.. so I don’t take it personally haha. People just seem to get really defensive about this subject.
I’m not sure if this reply is gonna come out in the right place but here goes! Couldn’t see a reply link by your last post. Me and computers don’t get on!
People are always really negative on YouTube! They have nothing better to do! I also think conventional medicine is TERRIFIED people might find a free solution to their problems. People make millions out of selling prescription drugs….makes you wonder if they’d let on that there was a free and easy way to sort out many problems?
I’d happily share my story! Unlucky for me my skins still not great – I’ve cut out dairy and I’m not 100% sure if it’s making a difference but my pores feel less blocked somehow. I just hope that my experience makes people think twice before believing everything they’re told by the professionals.
๐ xx
Tracy, I’m trying to wash my face with manuka honey. Having a hard time! How to do you get it to spread? Also, very hard to rinse off? Any tips on what I’m doing wrong?
Hi Tara – hmm I’m not really sure why it would be hard to spread! I’ve never found that. Do you live in a cold climate? Is it hard to spread because it’s cold and solidified?
It is winter right now! I just rinse with water? Seems sticky afterward. Love all of your tips, Thanks!
Where did you get that jojoba in a pump?
It’s from Fran at Highonhealth.org
Yep. I never ordered anything from her because I figured it would take forever + lots of shipping from Australia, but since I’m in Australia now, I decided to…. the manuka honey is okay. It works fine, but it’s a little bit grainier than the Wedderspoon honey I used in Canada which was really smooth, so I don’t like that.
The golden jojoba oil is really great though… it feels really nice and I like the pump. I think they sell organic golden jojoba in america too, grown somewhere in the States.
hi tracy,
what was the skin care routine you used when you were trying to initially clear up your skin? was it the same as shown in your video?
Not exactly – I used to use raw honey, but I’ve since discovered manuka honey is way better. I also used to use more aloe vera than jojoba oil, but I’ve just grown to love jojoba so much that aloe vera has been pushed aside… I still like aloe though
Quick question, How do you spread honey on your face without it sticking? I have tried the honey as a wash and mask, but it was like trying to spread syrup. You glided over your face with it so easy. Or do i have the wrong kind of honey? I use local raw honey, but i havent heard of Manuka honey before. is it different?
It definitely depends on the honey you have. Some honey is soft, some is hard. You do need to seek out the right honey.
Raw local honey is good… I used to use that until recently, until I finally broke down and tried manuka and never looked back. Manuka honey is a special honey from new zealand that has all these really special antibacterial properties that make it… just… awesome. Read this article I wrote about it: https://thelovevitamin.com/?p=1248
tracy — does that mean you used up your old manuka honey jar already? (the wedderspoon one?) I’m about to order my next one – I’m almost done with my old one. The 8.8 oz jar lasted me around 3-4 months. I was using the 12+ one, so this time I’m going to order the 16+ one and see how that goes.
i was also wondering about your hair thing that you talked about like … a few months back. you said you were trying to not wash your hair at all for a bit … did that work/are you still doing it? I tend to only shampoo like once a week, and I’ve noticed recently that my hair’s really oily and sometimes pretty gross.
Hi Tracy,
Your skin is absolutely beautiful!! So healthy and glowing!
Jeff’s query made me think….what shampoo do you use for your hair? I know you have mentioned Dr.Bronner’s liquid soap before. I wondered if it could be used as a shampoo?
Also, do you think people need to use conditioner or is it something the cosmetics industry has tricked us into thinking we need?
@ Jeff – no, I got through a small fraction of the Wedderspoon honey, but I got scared of Aussie customs and decided to leave it in Canada. So it should be there when I get back. The big jar should last a really long time… so it’s actually not as expensive at it seems!
@ Jeff + Ida – It was my boyfriend doing the “no shampoo” experiment, and since I do get a lot of people asking me about that, I decided to finally make a follow up video…. it will be posted next Wednesday!
i have used honey for 2 weeks but pimples are increasing, plz help,i m having soo many pimples from 8 class and now i m in12 class
Hi! Thank You Tracy for wonderful blog (which is like a Bible to me :D). I’m following almost all Your suggestions. I’ve been using manuka honey + olive leaf extract mask for 4 months (leaving it on my skin whole night). It’s great. Now I’m also adding few drops of 100% pure manuka essential oil, tamanu oil and walnut oil. Only disadvantage of manuka honey is its price:/ thats why I’m thinking about switching to some other honey, maybe buckwheat honey.
Washing my face with honey didn’t work for me, probably because I have pityrosporum ovale fungus along with acne:/ It looks similar to acne (small pimples)but leaves brown dots. Fungus and staphylococcus may look like acne.
Anyway… I’ve been living healthy lifestyle (diet, sleep, exercise) for 4 months, my skin is better now but I still have acne. And it got to me that emotional health is most important. I have acne because I hated myself for 20 years. Now I’m working on loving myself unconditionally.
Thank You Tracy for all!
Aw… well thanks for reading the blog… and keep going with everything you’re doing!! Emotional health is a huge thing… keep developing the love for yourself ๐
great video as always!
do u think that this routine will work for hyperkeratosis and blackheads?.i tend to get lots of dead skin cells on my skin so i am afraid that if i dont exfoliate some way i will get even more acne..
Hi Magda!
If your skin likes more exfoliation, you can add a little bit of very finely ground sea salt to your evening concoction!
Does honey balance out the ph levels in your skin? And is there a toner that you recomend? I’m going to stop using my proactive system and I don’t use a moisturizer right now but i’m attached to toning after cleansing. I was looking around on the internent and came arcoss a company called 100% Pure and all their products are natural. Do you think it would be beinifial to my skin to cleance twise a day with manuka honey and then tone with their hydrating acne toner?
oh and by the way my next pay check I’m getting your book! I’m so excited!!
Hi Kerstin! ๐ – yes, your skin is slightly acidic and so is honey, so you shouldn’t have to use a toner! If you must, diluted apple cider vinegar would do the trick, but I don’t entirely see the point
have you heard of oil of oregano? I heard that it improves the immune system / skin / everything! haha.
Hi Jeff,
Yeah I’ve used oil of oregano before, mostly to try and treat colds. I can’t say it works that well for me… it never seemed to get rid of my colds anyway! But it definitely works for some people.
However, you don’t want to use it for too long a time because it’s indiscriminate – meaning it kills good bacteria along with the bad
Hi Tracy, when I see your videos it’s always so hard to imagine that you once had acne..
Question: I remember you saying at some point that washing the face once a day could also be enough. I still wash my face twice, with a similar routine you show (though I started experimenting with “bee yummy skin food” that fran recommands, which I bought on my last trip to nyc)..but I tend to think more and more that my skin would be happier with even less washing. now the problem: when is the best time, if only once? in the mornings I don’t look so fresh, so I’d like to stick with washing my face in the morning, also to be able to put for instance jojoba oil on my skin if it’s dry. so I would have to leave out the evening..which seems quite strange if one lives in a big city, that is quite dirty. it would also mean, that I cannot wear any make up..? I only use tiny amounts of finishing powder to even out my tone a little. it often seems that most of it comes off during the day anyways..I know it’s up to me to experiment what works best for me. But I’m a little insecure about how and how much not and would like to know your thoughts on that topic. Any ideas?
Hi there!
Yes I used to not wash my face in the mornings, although I’ve begun washing it twice a day now. You don’t have to wash twice a day, especially if you think your skin likes it better not to! However, if you’re going to wear makeup, then you really need to be washing at night. So… I don’t know what to say about the mornings!
thanks for your reply! so when you didn’t wash your face in the morning, did you apply anyhting (like jojoba oil) in the morning?
Not generally – only if my skin was really dry (in the depths of winter usually because of dry indoor heating)
Hi Tracy! I am new at this, so i have a question for you..hope you can help me!
I am thinking of buying manuka honey… Since is so expensive i want to buy the right one =)
I found only one store in my city that has manuka honey. They told me they have Manuka honey Active UMF 12+!
I have no idea what the UMF 12+ means.. but if i am goint to put this on my face i would love to know! =)
Do you think this honey is appropriate?
Hi Petra!
Click on the link that I posted below the video to my article called “Why is Manuka Honey so Special for Acne and Acne Scars” and it will explain everything you need to know!
lots of love
Tracy xo
Hi Tracy,
1st off i came across you from you tube lol. I have mild acne and scars, i have been thinking about birth control but since i see that it makes it worst when you get off it not gonna happen. I see you say the Manuka Honey and its expensive, So my question to you is what the best way of staying on the natural path and the cheapest way to get rid of it once and for all?
Yeah definitely don’t go on birth control to control acne! It just backfires in the end. I probably shouldn’t have said in this video that manuka is expensive, because it’s actually not that expensive once you think about it… the Wedderspoon Honey is 30 dollars on amazon.com but the jar is actually very big and it would last you at least 4 or 5 months.
Hi Tracy, your skin looks beautiful & I love this skin care routine. Since I bought your book, I cautiously started using Manuka & Jojoba and surprisingly it’s working out quite well. My Manuka has since finished & I was curious about the Jelly Bush honey, but a bit reluctant to change from Manuka to Jelly Bush. You stated that Jelly Bush is grainier, but in terms of effectiveness, which do you think is better?
Thanks,
Andrea.
Hi Andrea,
I think they’re both as effective, but the drawback to the jellybush honey is that it could be a bit irritating due to the small grains… they aren’t that bad though, but I still preferred the smooth stuff.
Anyway, instead of ordering more jellybush honey, I just went to a health food store and picked up a bottle of a manuka I haven’t tried yet, just hoping that it wasn’t super grainy… anyway, what I picked up is called Natural Alternative Active 18+ Manuka Honey – it’s got a red and orange label….. anyway, I haven’t actually used it yet, but I was pleased that it’s really smooth, so maybe you can find that brand near you
Hi Tracy!
Thanks so much for making this video! It has helped me a lot. I’m having trouble getting my manuka honey and jojoba oil to mix. What’s up with that?
Also when I started using jojoba oil my face was SUPER oily for one day (I almost decided never to use it again) and then since then my face has been perfect.
Thanks!
Yes, I have to admit, they don’t mix that well… I noticed if you add a bit of the apple cider vinegar it sorta dissolves them both and mixes everything. Although it gets runny then…. I just mix it the best I can! Anyway… that’s really great to hear you’ve had great results with the jojoba and didn’t quit!
That worked like a charm! thanks!
Hi! I was searching like crazy for the manuka honey in my town, but no success! I decided to order it online, so now i am anxiously waiting for it!
Hope it works as well for me to!
I’m 18 years old, I will be turning 19 in 2 weeks actually. I was put on accutane when I was 13 after my dermatologist couldn’t find anything else to help me. I was on it for 8 months and it worked but after 2 months of being off accutane I started breaking out again. I went back to the dermatologist and she suggested to put me on accutane again at a higher dose so i tried it again after 3 months on it my skin was so dry it hurt to touch my face or even lay on my pillow so I quit it. Once I quit accutane my acne returned and it was severe. My dermatologist put me back on accutane at the lower dose and I was on it for 6 months. It helped for about a year and then my acne started to come back again but very slowly and mild. It stayed that way for about 3 yrs and then my acne started getting worse and worse. My acne is so severe right now I’m tempted to go back to the dermatologist but I’m afraid she will want to start me on according again but I will decline. That drug ruined my skin and did not help long term. My skin is still sensitive to the touch and regularly burns if I do not moisturize continuously. I have just come across your site and I really hope that your tips can help me help my skin!
Hi Sap!
I’m sorry you’re dealing with such stubborn acne ๐ I’m glad you aren’t considering going back on Accutane a 4th time! I can’t believe they’d even put you on it three times… it’s obvious it doesn’t work! But yeah… don’t worry, you can still have a positive outcome if you are willing to go for it and give holistic healing your best efforts! Lots of love
Tracy xo
Thankyou for having such an awesome, helpful and motivating website! I am from Australia and feel so proud that we along with NZ produce such great natural products! I have heard about jojoba oil before but this along with the comments has convinced me! I just brought some Pure Australian Golden Jojoba oil from highonhealth online store then ๐ woohoo can’t wait for it to get here…now to find where to get the best manuka honey!
Hey Armi!
I just started using the brand of manuka called Natural Alternatives active 18+ … I bought it off the shelf at a health store on the Central Coast, so maybe you can find it on a health store in your area…. it’s super smooth and nice, I like it a lot more than the jellybush honey from Fran’s shop
please help,i used honey but pimples are increasing day by day,now it have been 2 weeks, help i m having pimples from 8 class and now i m in 12,ihave it all over my face
Hey Tracey,
So I just went down to a health store in my town
and the lowest MGO was 30+ which I decided to buy anyway because it wasn’t very expensive but when I got home I released it is a blend with 50% manuka and 50% rewarewa honey. So I don’t know if you will have any idea if it will be suitable to use on my skin?! Its all natural pure nz honey so i’m guessing it will be fine hopefully ๐ its by manuka health nz. Let me know if u think it wont be good to use on my face, thanks heaps ๐
Hi Armi!
It will still be a good honey to use on the skin! I just used raw honey to wash my face for the majority of my journey to clearer skin… so it’s all good.
Hey Tracy!! Thank you so much for your blog ๐ I am stumped by something and I am wondering if you could help me out. The short of it is, I only have acne on my cheeks, on my temples and on the sides of my chin. Totally not on the T-zone area, which is weird, because isnt that is usually where people get acne? I know that the T-zone is the oily area and the cheeks and sides are much more dry. Is there a connection to this with my acne? Thanks so much!!! ๐
Hi Em,
Well in Chinese medicine they do say that each part of your face is connected to certain organs so which part of your face you break out in could give you clues into the underlying cause… can’t say it’s 100% accurate…. buut… check out this article http://nomoredirtylooks.com/2010/11/face-mapping-whats-your-acne-telling-you/
Thanks for the link! I have seen that Chinese map before and it is very interesting…I also did some more researching and want to know what you think! As many people know, getting acne in the T-zone area is usually due to excess oil production. Teens usually get acne in the T-zone, which makes sense since hormones regulate oil production, and excess hormones are often produced in teens due to their bodies trying to get all evened out. I was just reading that acne on the cheeks only may be caused not by excess oil but by hormones…and not active hormones, but the hormones that the body has already used and needs to eliminate, aka a type of toxin! If your body is backed up with too many toxins, if you have a weak liver, if you have a weak backed up colon, you won’t be able to get rid of these used up hormone toxins and they continue to get recycled throughout the body, causing cheek acne. And looking at the anatomy of the blood vessels in the face–the major blood vessels travel through the cheeks, while the nose, which is made of cartilage, has very few blood vessels, so it wouldn’t be as affected by toxins in the blood. I am just looking for an answer, because you wouldn’t believe how I have these horrible patches in the middle of my cheeks with acne, while the sides of my face and nose/forehead/chin look pretty darn good! It’s the weirdest thing ๐ I suffered from a HORRIBLE case of candida about two and a half years ago, and went through some pretty darn extensive die off, felt very good, then had this acne come up 8 months ago and haven’t gotten any better with it at all…I think I just went through so much die off and my body hasn’t eliminated all the toxins and is trying to catch up…I hope it does! I am seriously looking into colonics. I have read a few posts where you said you weren’t sure what you thought about them…have you had a chance to do any research into it at all? I would love to hear what you think! And I want to thank you again for your blog, you have given me a lot of hope!!!
Hey Em! Well going on a good detox diet might help you… and yes I’ve done more research on colonics, and I do think that they are a good idea, actually, especially if it’s before you embark on a detox diet/candida diet/gut microbial overhaul diet/whatever.
Hi Tracy,
I have been struggling with severe acne and have been adding fermented foods and following Body Ecology to the best of my ability yet my acne is getting more cystic and inflamed. I have been doing some colonics since I have candida symptoms but so discouraged. I do not know how to release trapped emotions which I have learned that we all
have and wanted to ask how you did this? Also what skincare routine did you use when your skin was at its worst?
Have been thinking about going on Proactiv again because I am scarring and scared.
Hi Raffia,
How long have you been following the body ecology diet?
If you feel you need to go on Proactiv again while you sort out your health issues, then just do it if you think it will help. I don’t recommend being on that sort of thing forever, but for now, if it’s going to relieve it a bit so that you can stop freaking out so much, then just do it!
My skin routine when my acne was at it’s worst was was similar to this – raw honey, and aloe vera mostly. Although that wasn’t what I was using when it got bad – I was using Carley’s Clear and Smooth.
As for releasing trapped emotions, books I recommend: The Emotion Code, The Power of Now, How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be, and also Skin Deep
Also, did you read my recent article about fluoride and acne? Read that girl’s resources and see if it rings any bells.
thank u for the book list
Hello Tracy,
My Mom when she was 20 tried to make honey mask. After couple of times she got couperosis. I have very similar skin and I am afraid to get the same result? My question is: Could homey mask be a reason of couperosis?
Hi Olga,
Hm.. I’ll be honest, I’ve never heard of couperosis before. It’s something to do with the blood vessels? I don’t have any idea whether the honey could have caused that or it was a coincidence. But since I really don’t know anything about couperosis, I really can’t say whether you should use it or not. If you are worried to, then don’t.
Hi Tracy, I’ve been wondering about something. How do you protect your skin from the sun? Do you just stay indoors while it’s sunny out there or do you use some homemade sunscreen?
Thanks.
Hi Henrique,
I’ve actually put sunscreen on about twice since I’ve been in Australia… it’s a natural sunscreen from a company called Badger…. but it’s pretty thick and not very nice to wear (plus I’m running out and don’t feel like buying more), so I just never put it on.
But even though I haven’t worn any sunscreen really, I have yet to get burned at all. While I’m not afraid of the sun or anything, I make a point to only spend a limited amount of time in the direct sun (like, I don’t go and just lie on the beach all day)… I try for no more than an hour… and if I’m out and about, I’ll try to make sure that I move to the shade whenever it’s available. And I wear a hat that shades my face.
The thing is is that when you remove all the crap from your diet and eat healthy, you don’t burn very easily at all! The sun is very strong in Australia, and the last time I was here, when I was a drunk backpacker who ate garbage, I would burn easily. Now I don’t at all… I outlast all the Aussies. And my boyfriend and I, whenever we go to the beach, I say ‘ah we don’t need sunscreen, we’ll only go for a little bit’, but then I’m always disappointed because he started burning way faster than me and we had to go home!
Hi tracy..
I wondering the ratio of your conjunction(?)..
And it’s really enough at night??
Hi! Usually 1:1 – ish. What do you mean by ‘really enough’?
Thank you..
i usually used make-up remover, cleansing foam, soap etc..
but you say..
wash your face with only at night.
so i wondered that is really enough..
makeup, dirt, oil is all gone??
and.. the ratio
manuka honey : jojoba oil: apple cider vinegar = 1:1: ??
I don’t know amount of apple cider vinegar..
Oh sorry, no, honey and jojoba is 1:1… apple cider vinegar is like…. a small dash. That’s optional anyway, it kinda makes the whole thing really runny – I don’t usually add that anymore
Hi, Tracy..
I have many question..
1.I usually used make-up remover, cleansing foam, soap etc..
but you say..
wash your face with only in the evening.
So I wondered that is really enough..
makeup, dirt, oil is all gone??
2. You don’t add apple cider vinegar anymore?? Can I ask why??
3. You don’t use any moisturizer, cleanseing stuff.. except manuka honey, jojoba oil??
4. So,, What is your new face wash routin??
AND
PLEASE understand that my English is not so good.. Because I am non-English speaking
person..
Thank you..
Oh.. my question 1.. there are incorrect part..
Wash your face with only in the evening
—>wash your face with only concoction in the evening..
^^;;
Hi Hyejin,
1. I think everything should be gone by washing with the concoction in the evening. Does that answer your question? I’m a bit confused.
2. I don’t use it because I just added it here as sort of an experiment. I just play around with the exact way that I do things, because I don’t think there is one right way, except that we should be irritating our faces and using absolutely gentle and natural ingredients. The apple cider vinegar made the concoction kind of runny so I cut it out. Plus I think adding it for extra ‘bacteria killing’ is more of a psychological thing rather than if it’s truly helping or not.
3. That’s correct.
4. I stopped washing at all in the morning. At night, I just massage straight manuka honey into my face, rinse it off, apply jojoba oil, rinse it off, pat dry, and done. (if you want to know why I stopped washing in the morning, it was just because I didn’t feel like it. I didn’t know if it was necessary, and it seemed like that extra washing was making my face paler than the rest of my body ! I want to keep my tan!)
Sorry if this confuses you that I change my routine slightly from time to time. Don’t think of it like if I don’t do it this EXACT way that’s in this video, then your acne won’t go away. It’s all the same thing, just slightly different. Play around and see how you like to do it. I mean, maybe some day soon, I’ll start washing my face in the morning again, or maybe I’ll start making the concoction again, or whatever I feel like doing that day.
Thank you tracy..^^
So..
You don’t make concoction anymore??
Your new routine is makeup remove well??
manuka and jojoba.. they are good for me..
Many thanks for your kindly information and reply..
I am currently using Proactiv as it is the only skin regime that keeps my acne at bay as I sort out my eating habits that are influencing my skin. I was just wondering how you made the jump from using harsh chemicals like Proactiv to the very mild natural concoctions you use now? Did you get more flare ups or was it over time that you developed this regime? I’m just hesitant to jump directly into using what you suggest for fear that it will worsen my acne irrevocably (I scar easily with cystic acne) until my lifestyle is more holistic. I’ve cut out dairy, refined sugars, junk foods that irritate, pre-packaged foods (now cook everything myself), replaced cooking oils with coconut oil and virgin olive oil, and have been exercising regularly. I suppose what I am asking for is a rough outline of the transition period between acne covered skin and beautiful skin like you have. I saw how you mentioned somewhere that it took a few months to clear up?
Well, the way I quit benzoyl was that .. it just didn’t seem to be working that well… so I decided to stop cold turkey. Two weeks later, I started getting a few pimples on my forehead, so over the next 3 or 4 months, I switched between all sorts of different (chemical) routines trying to find one that worked. Then I broke out in severe acne. That’s when I switched over to using honey and jojoba oil and changing my diet and lifestyle. It did take a few months to clear, yes. I think it depends on how bad it is and how stressed out you are over it, which can prelong healing.
But anyway… I don’t really see much of a problem with keeping on with the benzoyl until you have your lifestyle and diet a bit more in order and then maybe you can slowly wean yourself off of it
Tracy,
Thank you for all you do! I went off pill three months ago, and benzoyl 7 weeks ago. A week after going off benzoyl my face erupted with what I can describe as a rash of bumps with a few cysts over my entire face. I have bought your ebook and have been following your guidelines for the 7 weeks, using manuka honey. My face just keeps getting worse. Would you stick with the honey? Did your face take longer than 7 weeks to show some sign of improvement?
Hi Lauren – I’m sorry to hear this! this article might help: https://thelovevitamin.com/2790/manuka-honey-initial-breakout/
Hey Tracy,
I’ve been doing the cave man regimen for about 2.5 weeks. Except I use water… So I haven’t used any sort of soap on my face or hair for 2.5 weeks and it was going great! The two first weeks were really amazing, then after that, the pimples started to come back…
P.s. I have ezxema and oily skin, workout daily, and eat to sarisfy my nutritional needs. Should I keep waiting it out until week six or try the honey?
If you saw some good results in the first couple of weeks, I’d give it a bit longer to see what happens, but it’s all up to you what you want to try – you know your skin best
What do you think of Beechwood honey? It’s a darker honey. I have a jar of Wedderspoon’s 100% raw, organic, unpasteurized honey. It’s rich in oligosaccharides, and has no harmful chemicals or pesticides, or antibiotics.
Hi Jake, I don’t know anything in specific about beechwood honey, but using any raw organic honey is awesome ๐ I used to use that before switching to manuka honey
I’ve stopped using conventional soap on my face and have switched to washing with water – life saver for my face. The occassional olive oil cleanse makes me skin really soft and glowy. Never trid manuka honey though. I may do – sounds fun.
I’m Muslim so I pretty much have to wash my face before prayer so limiting the number of washes isn’t possible but I’ve definately noticed an improvement by not using soaps/toners etc.
A note on the birth control – I just went on it. Partly to improve my skin but also to deal with the major pains I get every month. Bit worried for when I eventualy go off the pill in the future but I do believe that eating well, exercising and gentle skin care should negate some of the after pill effect.
Hi Tracy,
I’ve been washing with pure/raw honey blend for about a week now, in place of Burts Bees salicylic acne cleanser, and I’m unfortunately not having great results. I ordered the wedderspoon 16+ manuka honey last night, but until it gets here do you suggest continuing with this raw honey blend I have, which is darker and thicker? I’m not sure if this honey is necessarily so good for my skin.
Besides this issue, I want you to know that what you are doing for all of us is great. I am so happy to have a resource for natural acne help!
Hi Cheryl ๐
This article will probably help to answer your questions:
https://thelovevitamin.com/2790/manuka-honey-initial-breakout/
Thank you for the help!!
Do you think evoo is an acceptable moisturizer in place of the jojoba? That’s what I’ve been using…
Hi Cheryl, yes, it could be – different oils work differently for different people, so olive oil may work just fine for you.. some people think it’s too heavy for their skin, but others do really well with it.
I’m planning on buying the Manuka Honey soap since manuka honey is too expensive (I’m only 15. I don’t want to be a burden to my Mom by asking her to buy me expensive cleansers just for me) I don’t really have super bad acne. There are just so many swollen little bumps on my forehead a few on my cheeks. Do you think it’s okay if i use the soap instead of the Honey itself? Sorry for my grammar. :English is not our main language here in our country. Thank you! I’m a big fan of your website. I just started reading your articles a few days ago!!
Hi Pee,
Instead of manuka soap, I would suggest just trying regular raw honey (which works too, and is less expensive). It will be MUCH better than a soap.
Hi! First of all, I love your blog and you (and your skin) are SO beautiful! Anyway, what I wondered is, I don’t think I can get my hands on manuka honey here (in Norway), and I don’t really have a lot of money to spend on anything, really. But I’ve found some raw, organic honey. Is that okey to use, do you think? And again, money is super tight, so do you think it would be okay with only having honey in my skin care/face wash routine? I don’t wear make-up except special occasions, which don’t happen a lot. And my skin is super sensitive, so I’m afraid of putting a lot of things, even if it’s natural products…
Hi Marlene,
Yes, regular raw honey (as long as it’s smooth and not grainy as that’s too abrasive… creamed honey is good) is also really good for washing.. that’s what I used before manuka honey. You might also want to consider doing the caveman regimen which is the best routine for sensitive skin, I’d say: https://thelovevitamin.com/3135/caveman-regimen/
Okay, thanks, I will check it you! Also, I have another question. I bought some honey today. It was the only organic one I could find in the store I was in, and I thought it was probably fine, but I forgot to see if it was raw. Now that I’m home and remembred about the raw thing, I realize it’s not organic raw honey, or at least, it doesn’t say “raw”, it just says that it’s organic. Should I forget about that honey and buy a raw one, or do you think it’s okay to use it since it’s organic? I don’t want to use it if it’s really important that it’s raw. I didn’t pick wrong on purpose, I was just a bit careless, and it’s a bit unfortunate if I can’t use it at all, but again, if it’s not a good idea to use it on my skin, then I won’t.
Hi Marlene,
You can still use it, although raw has extra benefits for the skin because it contains nutrients and enzymes that get killed when it’s pasteurized. I do think that when it comes to honey, raw is more important than organic.
Okay, I understand. I will try to use the one I’ve already bought and see how it goes, and then I’ll be sure to buy raw honey next. Thanks for the help!
What kind of jojoba oils have you used in the past?
Hi Johnny, check out this article for recommendations: https://thelovevitamin.com/3028/choose-good-jojoba-oil-acne/
Hey Tracy:)Ive been a follower for some time now. fyi you are awesome and thanks so much for taking the time to help so many people out. Anyways, I’m trying to make my way to the somewhat caveman regimen and going to eventually order the magic mitt but as of the last 3 months I have been using manuka honey to wash my face in the morning and use agran oil on the spots i have (really helped). but i have alot of clogged pores on my nose and I never exfoliate but i have heard alot about using baking soda as a exfolient. What are your thoughts on that? Also, the past few weeks I have been sleeping with my make up on and I swear it seems to be fading my acne scars. All I use is clinique “even better” foundation only on the spots I have, so its not like i have a cake full of make up on my face. Everyone that I have told that are like omg thats like the worst thing you can do but it seems my skin is clearer when i sleep with it. So weird I dont understand it either. I think it might just be because I’m not stripping the natural oils from my face before I sleep?…idk im stumped. but somehow washing my face in the morning instead of at night has helped. Why do you think that is?
Hi Ashley,
I don’t really have much of an opinion on baking soda… some people say it works great, so I can’t argue! haha. My intuition disagrees though because your skin is acid, and baking soda is so alkaline, in my head it doesn’t sound like a good idea, but I don’t know. I usually recommend like… plain yogurt… the lactic acid in it is a mild exfoliant without any abrasion. And it’s acid.
Anyway… as for sleeping with your makeup on your spots… I do that too now since I started the caveman regimen, and it’s fine. People have just heard a gazillion times in their life that it’s bad to sleep with makeup on, so that’s what they repeat. I’m guessing it is probably legitimately worse if your skin is caked in makeup and not washing it off, but as for just using it on spots…. no big deal imo
Hey Tracy,
Just a quick question, I figured this post would be the best place to ask it. How do you feel about Dr. Bronner’s soaps?
I’m currently removing all the gross bottles of goop from my shower that have mysterious ingredients and wanted to switch away from my dove bar soap. My parents have always been on the right track, especially my stepmom who made tumeric face washes that I then thought were the silliest thing. They ALWAYS had Dr. Bronner’s around that I was terrified to use because it was “too oily”, but now after my resounding success with Jojoba oil I decided to give them I shot.
I went for their almond soap, just going on the memory of how delicious it smelled, but upon closer look I saw all the friendly ingredients you’ve been raving about: Jojoba oil, coconut oil, and the like.
Any advice or thoughts?
Thanks, and love,
Acadia
Hi Acadia,
I like Dr. Bronner’s as a soap… it’s all natural and that’s what I use on my body when I shower. I don’t know how it is for the face… I have heard it can actually be quite drying, which might not be a plus
Perfect, thanks!
Yeah, I guess I should have been more specific because I do mean to use it as a bodywash. I agree that it could be too drying to use on my face, and I love my honey, jojoba, cinnamon, and lemon wash too much anyways!
Hi Tracy thanks for the tips!! Very helpful! Your skin looks radiant and beautiful. I have one question. Do you suggest using apple cider vinegar mixed with water as a daily toner without rinsing it off?
Hi Tracy!
Well my story is still writing. I had very bad acnes on my face and they were really painfull and horrible looking, I din’t pay attention on how they look but they were painfull. At night time I couldn’t go to sleep couse I couln’t put my face on the pillow.
I went to dermatologist twice and they gave me some skin drier, REALLY harsh medicines to put ON my face. Well they worked some way but they left lots of HOLES on my face, you can’t call them scars.
The worst thing was I REALLY belived that they are doctors and they knew what they should do COUSE THEY WERE FRIKKING EXPERTS! But yeah, some treatments did work on me but left horrible scars and it didn’t stopped my acne break outs AT ALL.
I am on acuttane right now, it’s been one and half months. For being honest only side effect that I got is dried and peeld of lips. My skin was sensitive before I started this treatment, and now it is dry and my skin reacts to water and I am having egzemas on my hands everytime I toucht to water. Well, it’s not a big deal for me, because I am use to having them. My skin is not super dry and my Acnes are fading away. But there’s a thing; I am having at leats 3 new acnes every day and they fade away in 2 days couse I’m on a drug and my skin is dry.
I can’t say that this treatment is good or bad yet, but yeah you are right. You can cure your acnes with more natural and drug free ways. But every drug has a side effect, and I didn’t know that you exist out there and talk about these things. If I knew your ways before I started accuttane I would try your way first. But well I am on acuttane right now and I hope my skin gets better. Ican’t say that I am regretfull of using acuttane because it worked on me after those scar leaving HORRIBLE treatments.
Your story is amazing and I hope I’ll go more person who suffers from acne. You are such an amazing person Tracy. Thanks for everything.
Finally After this treatment I will use your skin routines to prevent acne. I don’t know if I can use some of this when I am on the drug, but I am totally gonna be using those things after the treatment.
Hi Ilknur,
Hey don’t feel bad about choosing Accutane… the choice has been made and it will likely turn out really well for you, so it’s good to stay positive that there won’t be any issues ๐ I don’t see why you couldn’t use this routine while on the drug… I imagine you need something gentle like this as Accutane can make your skin pretty sensitive I’ve heard!
Hi Tracy,
Thank you so much for your site! Quick question on Manuka Honey: What does 16+ vs 250+ vs 400+ mean? I went to my local co-op and they had Manuka Health brand manuka honey in 250+ or 400+, but I noticed you mentioned 16+. Is 250+ too strong??
Thanks!
Hi Cait,
I explain it all here: https://thelovevitamin.com/1248/why-is-manuka-honey-so-special-for-acne-and-acne-scars/
There are a few different rating systems associated with manuka honey…. UMF or OMA 15 + or more is about on par with MGO 250+ or more…. so…. in a word…. no. It’s not too strong ๐ The 400+ would be fine too
Also, I don’t use any anti-aging anything so I’m not sure what products to suggest for that. My strategy is eat and live healthy to prevent them! Hopefully it works! haha
Thanks for the info! Sorry, i should have sleuthed the site a little more before asking! Your blog is very helpful. I started taking DIM (nature’s way brand from whole foods), a liver supplement, zinc, and a B6 supplement. I also threw out my benozyl peroxide and salicylic acid and started using your cleansing method. My face looked great for about a week, but then I broke out all over my forehead in small tiny bumps (cystic? very few whiteheads just small red bumps) and the chin/jawline acne came back as it always does about 10 days before my period so now my face looks worse then it ever has. I’m not sure what caused it since I changed so many things at once. One thing I noticed is that I had some digestive issues after taking the supplements, whereas I was pretty regular and normal in the bm department before (sorry, tmi). I think maybe my liver didn’t need any help and the supplement was counter-productive, so I’m going to stop taking that. The other thing I suspect is the jojoba oil. I’ve noticed from internet research that it seems some people’s skin just doesn’t jive with the jojoba oil, so maybe mine doesn’t… I’m going to continue to cleanse with the honey, exfoliate every once in a while with Jason peach/walnut scrub and use pure aloe gel and witch hazel as a toner. I think I’ll try just skipping moisturizer altogether since the honey is pretty moisturizing and now that I’ve stopped using bp, my skin is pretty oily. I also started taking saw palmetto and vitex. We’ll see how it goes.
Also, sorry, one more question: do you use any sort of product with retinol for wrinkle prevention? I’m only 27, but starting to get fine lines under my eyes when I smile… I used this retinoid night serium from the company, Ren, http://www.renskincare.com/p/3511/Bio+Retinoid+Anti-Ageing+Concentrate+
It seemed to reduce the appearance of these fine lines, but to be honest, maybe it was just dehydration in the first place and any hydrating product would have helped. Basically I’m wondering, what are your thoughts or strategies for anti-aging and/or hydration/protection of that thin under-eye skin area?
Thanks so much!
So I am a teenage male, I am currently using a cleanser from Invite Health, it has all natural oils for its ingredients, would it be even more natural and healing to just use manuka honey??? Or what about african black soap
Hi Emilio,
It all depends! I would probably think manuka is more healing than a formulated natural cleanser, but in the end, you just have to see what works for you and your skin
Okay ive been using manuka honey and just ordered jojoba oil, thanks!
Tracy,
First, I want to thank you. I believe in everything you stand for and it warms my heart how much you are helpin others all around the world feel beautiful inside and out. I have been browsing trough your page and videos, and have a quick question. I am thinking of attempting the caveman regimen. Is this video about washing your face after or before you went through it? Are you now washin our face with honey because the regimen was unsuccessful? Thanks so much! ๐
Thanks Christina! ๐ This video was before the caveman. The caveman seemed to work just as well if not better than this, and well, hey… doing nothing is easier! So I’m still going strong on the caveman.. however many people aren’t ready or aren’t willing to go caveman, so this is still what I would recommend for those who want to wash their face
tracy,
hey,im from an Asian country.who has dark skin with mild acne in greater numbers..I’ve been having just mild acne for the past 3 years..now i’m 20 years old.I’ve been using this cream called deriva-c for the past 2 years and it was really painful and i felt as it was burning my face when i applied it in the first month..i just want to know what’s your daily routine in washing your face, using manuka honey and jojoba oil..i really need a explanation..pls help me to get rid of this
Hi Nicholas, did you watch the video?
Hi Tracy,
Just read the earlier comments here and saw that your worst breakout was when you were on Carley’s clear & smooth? I TOTALLY AGREE!! It broke me out really badly too! Right before Carley’s i was using the African Black Soap (have you heard of this?) and i thought i saw some improvements on it, but not much, so i decided to try carley’s. i used it for 8 weeks, acne NEVER went down. They kept saying, be patient be patient, it’s just your skin purging, getting used to it bla3. BS. Then i stopped and was back to using the black soap and then my face calmed down (which means i’m prolly allergic to BP). Then i found your blog and am now on my 2nd day on manuka honey + argan oil. I dont wanna jinx it by singing it praises so soon, but this morning when i woke up, the parts of my face that’s acne-free were really smooth and dewy (i lather the honey on whole face, i have cystic hormonal acne around chin/jawline/some on temple and small ones on forehead). I really hope that this will work for me.
Thanks Tracy! Will update more on my progress ๐
Yep I was using Carli’s Clear and Smooth… I don’t really think it was JUST that that caused the breakout… I think there were a lot of factors and that was just the last straw. Anyway, hope this new routine works for you too! Good luck x
can you recommend something that i could use instead of manuka honey and jojoba oil?
Yep, try this article for natural face washes: https://thelovevitamin.com/3477/14-natural-face-cleansing-alternatives/
And try this for appropriate oil blends for your skin: https://thelovevitamin.com/7917/oil-blends-for-acne/
I understand what you’re saying but i really think that Carley’s was the thing that broke me out badly because i haven’t changed my diet or whatever since being off it and noticing a great change overall. I have added supplements into my diet though – zinc, liver detox, cod liver oil & a multivitamin, which may contribute to my calmer skin now. However i still eat whatever i want – in moderation of course.
I dont fault Carley’s for ruining my skin as it was my own conscious decision to buy the stuff and apply it to my skin. And it was my own choice to listen to their advice on how to use the product i.e. scrub my face with the grainy solution VERY VERY HARD until my skin gets used to it (yes that’s exactly what they told me to do). My skin was so irritated & inflamed and i kept at it until 8 weeks, how stupid of me. I should’ve stopped the moment i broke out worse from the last time! Jeez.
Whatever it is, i’m so glad i found your blog although it’s a few months too late. You won’t learn anything if you don’t make mistakes, ey? ๐
Thanks Tracy
I know, I can’t believe how hard they tell you to scrub your face with that stuff. It’s insane.
The Manuka works! I’m 41, have had hormonal acne all my life, but it REALLY kicked into high gear after the birth of my last child 9 yrs ago. I thought I had tried everything possible, Proactiv, Mario Badescu, you name it, and NOTHING ever cured it. Then I decided to go the natural route. I found Tracy’s website about a month ago. Per her suggestions, I have been washing with Manuka and taking Vitex, Estroblock, Burdock and Milk Thistle, and this is the BEST my skin has looked in ages. Even my husband commented on how much better it has been looking lately. ๐ Thank you, Tracey!!
Hey DeeDee, that’s so awesome!! I’m so happy for you ๐
Hey tracy, I know you talked about not worrying about your acne to relieve stress and let your body heal, i am doing that along with manuka honey. I have a question about swimming, do you think swimming in a pool with chlorine would have a negative effect on my skin?
Hi Emilio,
yes, chlorine could aggravate existing skin conditions. An occasional dip in the pool may not affect your skin much, but if you notice dry, flaky skin after taking a swim, chlorine may be the culprit.
Tracy,
You say here that your skin does not need moisturizer. Is this true for just your face or your entire body?
Also, I have recently started this routine and I couldn’t be happier. I rave about your blog to everyone!
Hi Christina,
Tracy is away for a few days without any internet access at all, so she asked me to answer her comments in the meantime.
Iโm glad to her this routine works for you!!! ๐ Thatโs amazing!!!
A little update: Tracy is doing the caveman regimen right now and does not even wash her face any more. Look at these articles to find out more about it:
https://thelovevitamin.com/3135/caveman-regimen/
https://thelovevitamin.com/3151/caveman-regimen-week-two/
https://thelovevitamin.com/3265/caveman-regimen-30-day-update/
As far as I know Tracy doesnโt moisturize her body either. But she dry brushes her skin regularly. Read this article:
https://thelovevitamin.com/4403/lymphatic-system-acne/
I know this comment is a little late, but 10 days ago I began using raw organic honey as a face wash/mask paired with 100% pure aloe vera gel. It has worked wonders on my skin, which is usually very oily, sensitive, acne prone. I also have scarring, redness, just horrible skin in general okay. lol. since using this regimen (along with evoo as a moisturizer at night) my skin has changed drastically. it looks so.. normal! I still have acne, but this really soothes it and makes it go away so much faster, overnight sometimes. The redness is gone, my skin tone, texture, overall look and feel is so much better… I stoppped wearing foundation because though its not perfect I finally feel okay about going barefaced in public. I can’t believe how good my skin looks and feels but I wanted to mention that when using the honey alone, the benefits aren’t as noticeable as when paired with aloe gel. the two really work well together and I can see results after wearing the mask for only 1 hour, my skin will look so much better. after having horrible skin and acne for 7 years I am so happy to say that this has really changed my outlook on my skin, and what I’m putting on it. Though it isn’t a miracle cure so far and I do still get some pimples, I will never stop using natural products as I realize most of my skin issues were caused by horrible chemically products that people shoved at me trying to save me from acne. it all changed thanks to Tracy!!
I also wanted to mention that my skin is no longer oily!! I get a little shiny at work since I work in fast food but I used to get SOOO greasy and gross looking but now it’s so much better. I think a lot of that has to do with the extra virgin olive oil!
Woohoo! So happy for your Ravyn ๐
Hi Tracy,
Have been using manuka honey for a couple days now, and while I’ve noticed the pimples sort of coming to a head, I’ve also found that it’s really hard to spread as it’s so sticky, and it sort of hardens up once on my face so I can’t rub it in properly or spread it, making me have to use more. Also, once I’ve washed it off and rub the oil in – I’ve tried several different oils now – and then pat it dry, as soon as it is free of excess oil and water, it feels extremely dry and looks very stripped. It feels so tight and uncomfortable that I have to apply a really heavy moisturiser, and then my skin feels even worse ten minues later. If you could help
me, I’d be very grateful. Thanks,
Vanessa
Hi Vanessa, perhaps honey isn’t for you. Check out these alternatives: https://thelovevitamin.com/3477/14-natural-face-cleansing-alternatives/
Hi Tracy,
Okay, thank you! Is there something I could mix with the honey to make it less harsh, or should I try something else entirely? I got the feeling that it sort of mildly burnt my skin, so maybe its too acidic for me? I’m worried though that nothing will properly clean my skin if I switch to something else, as I’ve tried the OCM and it just made my skin really dry too. Is there anything else that will do what I want it to?
Hi Tracy,
I have a couple questions for you! I have been on the candida diet for awhile and I use Manuka honey and jojoba in the morning(mask) and wash with it at night. Then I put on organic Aloe Vera on. I use mineral make up so what can I use stronger to remove my make up completely? I feel it’s not all coming off. Also, I noticed my skin is more rough. What can I use besides the aloe vera to make it smooth again? Would lavender oil be anything good to use? Thank you for your help!!
Hey tracy, im going to be doing a candida cleanse soon, since I wash my face with raw honey, I want tk know if the sugar can be absorbed through the skin and worsen the candida issue?
Thanks!
Hi Emilio,
Iโm not Tracy, but she is without internet access this week and asked me to reply to the comments on her blog in the meantime. I donโt think that washing your face with raw honey will be a problem. On the contrary, it will probably kill fungi and mold on your skinโs surface. Just make sure not to ingest the honey while washing your face ๐ …
Does the night mixture need to be refrigerated? How long can it last just sitting in the jar? How much do you usually make at one time?
thanks
Hei! Do u wash ur face in the mornings And in the evenings? or Only one time?
Hi Sandra, Actually I don’t wash my face anymore at all, and do the caveman regimen: https://thelovevitamin.com/3135/
However for most people I’d probably advice washing only once a day, perhaps in the evening.
Hey I am a 15 year old girl, I have moderate acne and my face gets quite red. Would you recommend just using your jojoba/honey wash to wash my face instead of normal face wash? I’ve had acne for three years now, and have tried birth control but my acne is so stubborn it doesn’t want to go away!! Please reply! ๐
Hi Caite, yes I would! Your acne might be a lot worse due to the use of harsh, commercial face washes
Hi there. Just too many comments to read through so I don’t know if this has been asked. I have only discovered your site recently and read as much as I could. I did the blood cleans and am using Vitex as well as doing the honey routine. I wanted to ask you about the specific honey you suggest and also the oil. Does it only go by one name (please spell out for me)? I am in South Africa so not sure if I can get it here. P.s I have seen a huge improvement in my skin since following your advice so THANK YOU!
Hi Cherise ๐
The honey I talk about is called manuka honey. Manuka is the type of honey, not the brand. You can probably find it in a health food store or something where you are. The oil is jojoba oil… again, that’s the type of oil, not the brand
https://thelovevitamin.com/1248/why-is-manuka-honey-so-special-for-acne-and-acne-scars/
https://thelovevitamin.com/3028/choose-good-jojoba-oil-acne/
Hello, just seen your video, and have done lots of reasearch in the manuka honey and jojoba oil, and I’m really wanting to give it a try, but I’m in the process of trying no wheat, and green smoothies 1 a day, and eating healthy of lots of water, herbal teas, and salads for dinner, and exercize, can you overdose on greens? and is it ok because I’ve heard that you have to rotate your greens, is kale ok for one week, then spinach and salad ok for one week? but I just wondered weather you think I should carry on with the same skincare routine while I’m trying the healthy road and try that for another month and a half, because I have been doing it for nearly 3 weeks, my skin does look brighter and more smooth, but still has the red marks and bumps, will that go away with time or? And for a week I tried rosehip oil but I broke out in a breakout, is that too heavy for me? Its difficult for me to find the honey and jojoba oil in the uk, do you know any?
look forward to hearing your reply thank you x
Hi Ness,
Yes it is best to rotate your greens as much as possible… in theory yes it is possible to overdose on greens if you eat the same raw greens day after day after day after day. But I wouldn’t worry about it too much, just try and get some different ones in once in a while.
Three weeks is pretty short time, keep going! It is great that you have seen improvement, things should continue to improve. It’s your choice if you want to switch your skin care or not. Not sure where to get manuka honey and jojoba oil in the UK, sorry
Thank you, I try to eat different things each day but is difficult there is only so many greens and can get my hands on here, I thought its too soon to tell, hopefully it will get better with more time :), Is 2 months enough time? Or longer? because I thought see where my skin is at in 2 months time then give the honey and jojoba oil a try? No problem I think I will just invest in the expensive ones you use, because I dnt mind if its real quality and could potentially work, thanks again x
Hi Tracy!
So just the other day I bought some raw, unprocessed honey from a health food store just to try it out and it’s been fine so far, the only thing is it makes my skin a bit dry…does that normally happen with honey? I thought honey would be super moisturizing, or is that only certain kinds of honey, like manuka? Is that why you use jojoba afterwards to moisturize? Thanks!
Hi Ariana, it normally is not too drying, but people react very differently to different things. It might not be the best choice of face wash for you if that’s the case, or you can balance it out by using a very moisturizing oil afterwards such as extra virgin olive oil
Hi Tracy, you’re such an inspiration for me. I have acne around my cheeks since i went to senior high school(my face is combination). I’m 16 right now and i have been using manuka honey mgo+400 since 2 months ago to cleanse my face twice a day. i usually use it around half of teaspoon (because manukahoney is so expensive and I though that natural is the best haha. i’m also scared to buy any other cleanser. ). Do you have any recommendation about how much should i take to cleanse my face? my acne was gone actually since i started using manuka honey. But the red marks and brown marks still there. How long it”ll be take to clear my marks? i’m also start healthy lifestyle since 2 months ago but it seems that maybe I’m doin it wrong. Do you have any suggestion about what kind of vegetables and fruits should i eat to speed up the healing process of my acne? Thanks.
Hi Tracy,
I have larger pores that tend to get clogged with blackheads very easily. I’ve only tried jojoba oil for a few days, but felt like it totally clogged my pores and once I started breaking out more I stopped using it. Any thoughts on how to keep enlarged pores clean and shrink them if possible?
Thanks!
Hello Tracy!
I was scrolling down Google search for a good acne treatment and a product review brought me to your page. I am honestly so happy that I found you. I’ve been a little stressed out that my face was not getting better even after I switched to a free alcohol, fragrance, colorant and mineral oil, but there’s paraben. I know many beauty products, like, most of them in stores have bad chemicals and they’re not good for us for a long-term period. My classmates have nice to perfect skins while my acne appears without control (I used to ONLY have acne during periods but now there are scars and red spots even when I’m not). My friend said I have sensitive skin and I’m more certain it’s true since my mother’s more to sensitive side too. I almost lose hope but thank God I found you ๐ sorry it’s too long, but my questions are:
If I use raw natural honey, I should put tea tree oil like you said, as it’ll not work as effective as manuka honey. It’s too hard to find one unless I order it online… How should I use the tea tree oil then? Should I mix them and use both at the same time? Like when I lather the honey on my face every morning, should I mix with tea tree oil first?
Next, is there any alternative to jojoba oil? I can’t find it anywhere at the moment… I only have olive oil with me. Is it okay? But my face is not dry…
Thank you very much! Sorry, I accidentally clicked the ‘send’ button for the unfinished comment.
Hi tracey, iv been cleansing with Manuka Honey. How often do you recommend using it is every day ok?
Yep everyday is okay ๐ Use it as much as you feel your skin needs / wants it
Hey tracy!
What brand of jojoba oil and manuka honey are you currently using?
Also, I’ve been doing an exfoliating scrub with coffee/cinnamon/coco powder/unrefined coconut oil and so far I love it, but its defiantly not something I want to be using on a daily basis c:
Love your site, you are such an inspiration to us all!
Blessed be!

Hi. Just got Manuka honey! I was wondering if it makes a difference if you wash your face with it in the morning or evening. I usually exercise in the evening so my face gets all sweaty. Could I just use water to rinse my face, or should I use the honey?
Hello Tracy! I have been washing with the Manuka and jojoba oil for about 8 months now but am not sure if I’m doing it right. On the weekdays days I don’t wear makeup so I do the honey then moisturize after with the jojoba. But when I go out on the weekends I wear heavy makeup. When I come home at night, should I still do the honey first, or take it off with the jojoba then do the honey, then do more jojoba after (what I currently do). Or should I just take it off with jojoba, then do the honey, then be done? Thanks xx
